In June of 2005 Colm Wilkinson, famed star as Jean Valjean in the original London production of "Les Miserables", and star of the Toronto production of "Phantom of the Opera" joined the Upper Canada Chorus for a performance of Irish Folk Music at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Singing music with the chorus including such Irish favorites as "Go, Lassie, Go", "The Fields of Athenry", "Whisky in the Jar" and "Danny Boy", Mr. Wilkinson demonstrated the vocal dexterity that has made him legendary in musical theatre circles. The UCC choirs added to the cultural flavour of the evening by presenting several Canadian folk songs. To conclude Mr. Wilkinson performed "Music of the Night" from his title role as "Phantom", and then "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables. Choristers were thrilled to work with this musical theatre legend, and Mr. Wilkinson is as skilled at engaging youth as he is performing.
